How the Seville Game of Thrones Tour Works
Three steps from the Monumento a la Inmaculada to the Alcázar gardens that became Dorne.
Meet at the Monumento a la Inmaculada Concepción
Arrive 30 minutes early at the Monumento a la Inmaculada Concepción on Plaza del Triunfo, a 90-second walk from the Alcázar gate. Your Crown Tours host checks you in against your booking name — tickets are nominative, so bring your passport or ID.
Skip the Line into the Royal Alcázar
Walk past the standby queue with your licensed guide and audio receiver. Start in the Patio de las Doncellas — the Courtyard of the Maidens, used as the Martell palace interiors — and continue to the Salón de Embajadores beneath its golden Mudéjar dome.
Stand in Dorne's Water Gardens
Step out into the Jardines del Alcázar — the palm-shaded terraces that doubled as the Water Gardens of Dorne where Prince Doran received Jaime Lannister. Your guide points out the exact camera angles from Seasons 5 and 6.

Everything a Game of Thrones filming locations Seville visitor needs to know before booking.
Yes. HBO filmed the Dorne storyline inside Seville's Real Alcázar during Seasons 5 and 6, and used the Roman amphitheatre at Itálica (9 km north of the city) as the Dragonpit in Seasons 7 and 8. A short drive away, Almodóvar del Río Castle played Highgarden and Seville's Casa de Pilatos provided additional Dorne exteriors.
The Dorne palace sequences — Prince Doran Martell's audience chamber, the Water Gardens where Ellaria Sand and the Sand Snakes appear, and Jaime Lannister's arrival — were all shot inside the Real Alcázar. Seasons 7 and 8 then used Itálica's 25,000-seat Roman amphitheatre for the Dragonpit summit scenes.
The Alcázar appears from Season 5 episode 'The Wars to Come' through Season 6, covering most Dorne scenes. The Dragonpit at Itálica shows up in the Season 7 finale 'The Dragon and the Wolf' and the Season 8 premiere. Casa de Pilatos and Almodóvar Castle appear in several Season 6 and 7 episodes set in Dorne and the Reach.
Dorne is fictional — it's the southernmost kingdom of Westeros in George R.R. Martin's novels. For HBO's adaptation, the Dorne palace and Water Gardens were filmed at the Real Alcázar of Seville, a UNESCO World Heritage Mudéjar palace in southern Spain. That's why Dorne looks Moorish on screen — because you are literally looking at Moorish architecture.
HBO filmed Dorne primarily at the Real Alcázar of Seville: the Patio de las Doncellas doubled as palace interiors, and the Jardines del Alcázar became the Water Gardens of Sunspear. Casa de Pilatos supplied extra courtyard exteriors, and a few establishing shots were captured around the Alcázar's Mudéjar façade facing Plaza del Triunfo.
The key Alcázar scenes include Jaime Lannister and Bronn's mission to rescue Myrcella, Ellaria Sand's confrontation with Prince Doran, and the Water Gardens sequence where Doran sits beside the pools. Cinematographers used the Patio de las Doncellas arches, the Salón de Embajadores throne hall, and the sunken pools of the lower gardens.
Three main areas: the Patio de las Doncellas (the long rectangular pool with Mudéjar stucco arches), the Salón de Embajadores (the gilded wooden dome used as the throne room), and the Jardines del Alcázar (the terraced palm gardens and fountains that doubled as the Water Gardens of Dorne).
Standard Real Alcázar general admission is around €14.50 at the gate. A skip-the-line guided Game of Thrones tour starts from $44 per person and includes the entry ticket, a licensed guide with audio receivers, and the Crown Tours app — so you skip the 60–120 minute peak-season queue and leave with the full GoT story.
Yes — the Alcázar caps daily visitors and timed slots routinely sell out 5–10 days in advance from April through October. This tour carries a 'Likely to sell out' badge. Booking a guided slot is usually the fastest way to lock in entry on the date you want, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before makes it low-risk.
Itálica, the Roman city founded in 206 BC about 9 km northwest of Seville, hosted the Dragonpit scenes in Seasons 7 and 8. Its elliptical 25,000-seat amphitheatre became the ruined Dragonpit of King's Landing where Cersei, Daenerys, Jon Snow, and the Hound meet to discuss the Night King. See the Itálica tour in the experiences section above.
Beyond Seville, HBO filmed at Almodóvar del Río Castle in Córdoba (Highgarden), Trujillo Castle in Extremadura (Casterly Rock), Peñíscola in Valencia (Meereen streets), Zumaia and Itzurun Beach in the Basque Country (Dragonstone cliffs), Bardenas Reales in Navarra (Dothraki sea), and the Alcazaba of Almería. Andalusia alone contains six recognisable locations.
Yes — especially April through October. The Royal Alcázar is one of the most visited monuments in Spain and entry is strictly timed. This guided tour sells out regularly. Book at least 3–5 days ahead in peak season. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before means there's no penalty if plans change.
