Every Game of Thrones Filming Location in & Around Seville

Where Game of Thrones filmed in Seville: the Real Alcázar (Dorne), Itálica (the Dragonpit), Osuna, Casa de Pilatos and Almodóvar Castle.

Updated May 2026

When HBO needed somewhere that looked like Dorne — sun-baked, Moorish, impossibly elegant — they did not build a set. They came to Andalusia. Seville and the towns around it supplied four of the most recognisable backdrops in the series, and most of them are still open to visitors today. This guide maps every Game of Thrones filming location in and around Seville, what scenes were shot there, and how to actually stand in them. If you only have time for one, the Royal Alcázar Game of Thrones tour covers the headline location with a licensed guide.

The Real Alcázar of Seville — Dorne

The Real Alcázar is the showpiece. This UNESCO-listed Mudéjar royal palace doubled as the Water Gardens of Sunspear, the seat of House Martell, across Seasons 5 and 6. It is the single location every Game of Thrones fan in Seville should prioritise.

Inside the palace, the production used a handful of specific spaces. The Salón de Embajadores — the gilded Ambassadors’ Hall under its golden wooden dome — became Prince Doran Martell’s audience chamber, where Jaime Lannister arrives to collect Myrcella. The terraces above Mercury’s Pond appear when Ellaria Sand confronts Doran demanding revenge for Oberyn. The Baths of María de Padilla host the scene where Ellaria and the Sand Snakes plot. And the palm-shaded Jardines del Alcázar are the Water Gardens themselves.

Because the Alcázar caps daily visitor numbers and runs timed entry, this is also the hardest of the Seville locations to get into on short notice — see our guided tour vs general ticket comparison for the fastest way in.

Itálica — the Dragonpit

About 9 km northwest of Seville, in the town of Santiponce, lie the Roman ruins of Itálica — a city founded in 206 BC and birthplace of two Roman emperors. Its elliptical amphitheatre, one of the largest in the Roman world with room for roughly 25,000 spectators, became the ruined Dragonpit of King’s Landing.

This is where the great summit of the Season 7 finale takes place — Cersei, Daenerys, Jon Snow, Tyrion, the Hound and the rest gathering to confront the threat of the dead. Itálica returned for Season 8. Walking the amphitheatre’s stone tiers and underground passages, the scale of that scene suddenly makes sense. A dedicated Itálica Game of Thrones tour pairs the Dragonpit with the Roman mosaics next door.

Osuna — Daznak’s Pit

The small town of Osuna, about 90 km east of Seville, hosted one of the show’s biggest set-pieces. Its 19th-century bullring stood in for Daznak’s Pit, the fighting arena in Meereen where Daenerys faces a crowd, the Sons of the Harpy attack, and Drogon arrives to carry her away. The sand-coloured arena needed almost no dressing. Osuna leaned into its moment of fame and even runs a small Game of Thrones exhibition.

Casa de Pilatos & Almodóvar Castle

Back in central Seville, Casa de Pilatos — a 16th-century Andalusian palace blending Mudéjar, Gothic and Renaissance styles — supplied additional Dorne courtyard exteriors. It is a short walk from the Alcázar and far less crowded.

Further afield, Almodóvar del Río Castle, a restored hilltop fortress in Córdoba province, played Highgarden, seat of House Tyrell. Reaching it is a half-day trip from Seville, but the silhouette is unmistakable.

Planning Your Game of Thrones Day in Seville

The Real Alcázar and Casa de Pilatos sit within walking distance of each other in the old town, so they pair naturally into a single morning. Itálica is a short drive or local bus ride and works as a half-day add-on. Osuna and Almodóvar are full or half-day excursions on their own. For most fans, the Alcázar plus Itálica is the realistic two-location itinerary — the rest reward only the truly committed.

A guided visit matters more here than at most attractions. Without a guide, you walk straight past Dorne without knowing it: the rooms are unlabelled and the palace gives no hint of its screen life. See our companion guide to the exact Dorne filming spots for the room-by-room breakdown.
